- Population: Fluctuating – 776,000 visitors per year
- Founded: 1960 AD
- Reason for Existence: Preservation of beauty and geology.
- Reason to Come: An oasis of beauty sitting in the high desert of Oregon. Despite the large number of visitors didn’t get a crowded feeling at least during the week. Rock climbing galore. Panoramic view of central Oregon when hiking to the top of the rocks. A clear mostly unpolluted river to remind you what water could look like.
- Reason Not to Come: Selfishness- kind of want to keep good things a secret. Plenty of snakes. No maid service for your sleeping bag and/or tent. There really isn’t a reason not to come to Smith Rock.
